Don Mueang is one of the important commercial centers of southeast Asia. As a result several travelers come to the city for various purposes. The airport has been the chief operating center of the Thai Airways international, the main airlines company of the country.
The Don Mueang International Airport is one of the oldest airports in Thailand. The airport however closed down in 2006 after the opening of the Suvarnabhumi Airport, the newest airport of Bangkok. The Don Mueang International Airport was initially inaugurated as the Royal Thai Air Force base.

The Don Mueang International Airport has also been ranked as the 18th busiest airport in the world and 2nd in Asia. However although being one of the most busiest airports of Thailand, the Don Mueang International Airport was closed down and replaced the new Suvarnabhumi Airport. The airport was again reopened on 24th March, 20007 and non connecting domestic flights began to operate to and from the airport. Presently 3 airlines companies ply their flights from Don Mueang International Airport that include the Nok air, One-Two-Go Airlines and the Thai Airways. The Don Mueang International Airport currently operates jointly with the Suvarnabhumi Airport.
A brief history about Don Mueang International Airport: The first flight at the Don Mueang International Airport was operated by the Royal Thai Air Force in March 8, 1914. Commercial flight service at the Don Mueang International Airport was started from 1924. the first flight to arrive at the airport was the commercial flight operated by KLM. The airbase of Don Mueang International Airport was also used as one of the main airbases during the World War II. The airport also served as a major airbase of the United States Air Force at the time of the Vietnam War.
How to reach the Don Mueang International Airport: The nearest city to the airport is the capital city of Thailand. Downtown Bangkok is connected with the Don Mueang International Airport through the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road which is considered to be the main linking route to the airport.
